Simple, transparent pricing

€199 a year to act as your representative for packaging in Italy, with no setup charge and no volume tiers. CONAI's one-off joining share and its contribution per kilo are billed separately at CONAI's own rate, with no markup from us. Every competitor price we could verify is published on this site so you can check the comparison rather than take it from us.

Which one applies to you

Essential is the whole job. Everything a foreign seller needs for Italian packaging is in it — the representation, the Italian address, the CONAI membership, your CONAI number and the declarations. Nothing mandatory has been moved up a tier. Standard adds what sits on top: we watch the Italian rules for you — including the PPWR decree still to come — and tell you when something changes, and you go to the front of the queue. Custom is for companies that also place electrical equipment or batteries on the Italian market — those register separately and are quoted by hand.

What the €199 fee covers

Everything a foreign company needs to meet Italian packaging EPR and PPWR Article 45(3):

  • Appointment as your representative for packaging in Italy
  • Our Italian address as your domicilio speciale, which CONAI requires of a foreign company
  • Your CONAI membership application, filed through CONAI's foreign-company channel
  • Your CONAI number, the number Amazon.it and other marketplaces ask for
  • The written mandate appointing us
  • Your periodic CONAI declarations, at the frequency CONAI assigns
  • Correspondence with CONAI
  • Every sales channel: Amazon.it, your own shop and other marketplaces

What it does not cover

  • CONAI's costs — the one-off joining share (€5.16) and the environmental contribution per kilo are CONAI's, passed through at cost with no markup.
  • Historical regularisation — if you sold into Italy before joining, past periods are quoted separately.
  • Electricals and batteries — they register in the Registro AEE and the batteries register, not with CONAI, and are quoted by hand.
  • Italian VAT — a tax matter, not packaging representation.

How the appointment works, and why your CONAI membership stays yours

CONAI admits a foreign company as a member if it elects a domicilio speciale in Italy with a person or company appointed for that purpose. Since 12 August 2026, PPWR Article 45(3) also requires a producer that is not established in Italy to appoint an authorised representative there. Three consequences are worth understanding before you sign.

We are your address and your representative in Italy

CONAI writes to the Italian address you elect. Electing ours means CONAI's correspondence comes to us, and we act on it for you under the mandate.

Your CONAI membership stays yours

The CONAI number identifies your company. It is yours, it stays yours, and if you ever leave us you keep it and elect a new address. We are recorded as your domicile and representative, not as the owner of your membership.

One representative per member state

Representation is appointed per country. An Italian representative cannot cover Germany, France or Spain, whatever a provider's marketing implies.

If you already have a CONAI membership, nothing is filed twice. We take over the address and the declarations on your existing number.

Marketplace or own shop — and why it changes what CONAI expects

CONAI treats a foreign company differently depending on how its goods reach Italian buyers. Getting the route right is part of the fee.

  • Through an online marketplace. Under art. 178-quater of D.Lgs. 152/2006 you may use the platform's simplified arrangement, such as Amazon's Pay on Behalf, or join CONAI. Since 12 August 2026 Amazon still asks every seller for its own registration number, which in Italy is the CONAI number.
  • Through your own shop, or direct to businesses. CONAI says a foreign company selling this way has no obligation towards it today, but may join voluntarily. PPWR Article 45(3) now requires a representative for producers selling directly to end users in Italy, and Italy's implementing decree is still pending.
  • A company selling through both routes needs one CONAI membership covering both. That is included here rather than sold as an upgrade.

The two routes

Marketplace sellers

Platform arrangement or CONAI membership. Amazon asks for your CONAI number either way.

Own shop and B2B

Voluntary CONAI membership today, and an authorised representative under the PPWR.

The honest limit: we are a compliance office, not a waste contractor. What the fee buys is the representation, the Italian address, the CONAI membership and the declarations. Physical collection, where it is genuinely needed, is a separate contract with a waste manager at their price.

What is not in the fee

Two things are deliberately outside it, because pretending otherwise would mean quoting a price we could not keep.

Questions people actually ask

Can I use you alongside Amazon EPR Pay on Behalf?
Yes. Pay on Behalf only pays the contribution for the units Amazon covers. It does not give you a CONAI number, which Amazon asks for anyway. We get your CONAI number and file your declarations. Units Amazon has already paid for are left out of what we declare, so nothing is paid twice.
Why is €199 cheaper than the rest of the market?
Because the work is a fixed annual job — one membership, one address, the declarations — and we price it that way rather than by your weight. Every other published price we found is higher; check them in the dataset.
Are CONAI's costs included?
No, and no honest provider includes them without a cap. CONAI charges a €5.16 joining share once and a contribution per kilo by material; we pass both through at cost and publish CONAI's rates so you can check them.
Do I need an Italian partita IVA?
Not for us to act. A foreign company joins CONAI with its own company details and VAT number. If you hold stock in Italy, for example through Amazon's Pan-European programme, you may need Italian VAT registration for tax reasons, which is a separate matter.
How long until I get my CONAI number?
CONAI issues the number when it accepts your membership. We file the application the day your details and signed mandate are in. CONAI's processing time is its own: Amazon itself warns that Italian registration takes weeks, and other providers quote between six and sixteen. We cannot guarantee CONAI's timing.
What if I have been selling into Italy for a while already?
Then past periods may have to be declared, which is quoted separately because the work depends on how far back it goes. It is cheaper handled deliberately than discovered later.
Is the fee really flat?
Yes. No volume tiers, no setup fee, no charge per marketplace. The one thing that varies is what CONAI charges for your kilos, and that is CONAI's, not ours.
I sign up in October. Do I pay again on 1 January?
Yes. €199 covers the calendar year you join in, to 31 December, whatever the date you start, and renews at €199 on 1 January. There is no pro rata.
Is VAT added to the €199?
€199 is before VAT. A business in another EU country that gives its VAT number, or a business outside the EU, is invoiced without VAT. The invoice states the VAT treatment.
