Glossary
Italian packaging compliance has its own vocabulary, and several terms are routinely confused. These are the ones that matter.
Extended producer responsibility. The principle that whoever places a product on the market pays for its end of life. D.Lgs. 3 aprile 2006, n. 152
Consorzio Nazionale Imballaggi — the national packaging consortium. Producers and users of packaging join it and pay its environmental contribution. There is one, not a choice of schemes. CONAI
Contributo Ambientale CONAI — the environmental contribution, set per tonne by material and, for plastic, by band. It funds separate collection and recycling. Not a tax. CONAI
The membership number CONAI gives a company when it joins. For Italy, it is the packaging registration number Amazon and other marketplaces ask for. Amazon.it Seller Forums
An Italian address a foreign company elects, with a person or company appointed for the purpose, so that it can join CONAI. CONAI's correspondence goes there. CONAI
