Amazon.it asked for your EPR number: what to enter

Since 12 August 2026 Amazon asks every seller for a packaging registration number for Italy, even with Pay on Behalf. For Italy that is your CONAI number. Where to get it, where to enter it, and the common rejections.

Quick answer

For Italy, the packaging registration number Amazon asks for is your CONAI number — the number CONAI gives you when you join. Amazon asks for it even if you use Pay on Behalf. A foreign company joins CONAI through CONAI's foreign-company form, with an Italian address as its domicilio speciale. Your partita IVA or tax code is not the number, and entering it is a common reason for rejection.

What Amazon announced

An Amazon moderator on the Amazon.it seller forums quoted Amazon's official notice for Italy on 4 August 2026: from 12 August 2026 the new EPR requirements apply to sellers of packaging and packaged products, and “anche se utilizzi il servizio EPR Paga per Conto Mio, devi inviare un numero di registrazione EPR (ERN)” (“even if you use the EPR Pay on Behalf service, you must submit an EPR registration number (ERN)”). The same moderator corrected sellers who had been told by Amazon support that Italy did not need EPR yet: that information was wrong.

Which number, and where it goes

  • The number: your CONAI membership number.
  • Where: Seller Central → Settings → Account Info → Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) → select Italy and the packaging category.
  • The common rejection: entering the partita IVA or codice fiscale instead of the CONAI number.

How a foreign seller gets a CONAI number

  1. Elect a domicilio speciale in Italy — an address with a person or company appointed for the purpose. That is the role we take.
  2. Sign a written mandate.
  3. File CONAI's membership form for foreign companies with your company documents, VAT number, the signatory's ID and your packaging data. Italian companies join online with an Italian digital identity; foreign companies use the dedicated form.
  4. Pay the €5.16 joining share. CONAI then confirms the membership and the number.

Amazon itself warns that registration in Italy takes weeks, and announced extra time for Italy, the Netherlands and Belgium because of it. Start before your listings are flagged.

If your listings were deactivated

Amazon does not reactivate listings automatically once your number is validated. Reactivate them yourself in Manage All Inventory, or in bulk with the Inventory Loader.

If you are not the producer

If you resell goods whose packaging your supplier already placed on the Italian market and declared, Amazon lets you enter the supplier's number instead. That applies only where the supplier really did meet the obligation upstream. See who is the producer.

Selling into Italy without an Italian company?

Amazon.it asks for your CONAI number, and CONAI asks a foreign company for an Italian address. We are both, for €199 a year.
